Unexpected End To The Season

Thursday 12th March saw the Club travel to Llandyfaelog to play the 'A' Team in what was to be the last game of the season. The Coronavirus saw the league competitions cut short with two weeks left but the health of the players was far more important.

As we were a man down we had to rely on Dylan playing twice in the pairs and fours. The evening started with the pairs and triples. The pairing of Dylan and Huw struggled with the mat and succumbed to a 11-6 loss. The triples of Huw, Jill and Catrin had an excellent 12-9 win.

Next up with a close fought match was Aled who took the singles 11-10. The final game was the fours with Peter, Janet, Dylan and Derick. This was again a close match with only single points gained by both teams during the game but Llanpumsaint came out on top with a 5-3 win. Following this win the Club finish the league in sixth position. On the 7th and 8th of March, the national finals of the pairs and triples were held in Llandrindod. Aled and Gethin qualified for the pairs, coming second in the county competition. During the group stages, they lost to eventual champions Andrew Hudson and Jonathan Gladstone from Pembrokeshire, however second in the group was enough to qualify for the plate competition. They made it all the way to the final, but lost to another pair of brothers from West Glamorgan.

Aled and Gethin have now been given a trial for then main Wales squad for the British Isles Championships in November.
