Congratulations To All

The club would like to congratulate a number of members for representing their country over the past 2 weeks.

Firstly Aled represented Wales at the World Championships in Herentals, Belgium playing in a pair with Dafydd Howell from Pontargothi. The pair got through their group games unscathed, winning all 7 games against some strong opposition. This placed them as group winners going in to the semi-final, where they would also register another win, and progress to the final to fight for the World Title. As it so happens the other pair of Jonathan Gladstone and Andrew Hudson (both from Pembrokeshire) won their group and semi final meaning that the final would be an all West Walian contest. The final itself was a very hard fought and close contest and after 10 ends, Aled and Dafydd were ahead by 2 shots. They dropped 3 shots in the 11th end meaning that they would go into the final end 1 shot behind. Despite all their best efforts, they could not claim a shot for a draw / win and would come runners up.

Jonathan and Andrew are now the current Pembrokeshire, Welsh, British and World title holders in the pairs, some achievement.

Secondly, the club wouldike to congratulate Rhys and Catrin for again representing Wales in the Youth Match between Wales and England.

There were 6 rounds of games in total - Fours - Triples - Pairs - Pairs - Triples - Fours . Despite results not going Wales' way in the end they finished the final round of games by almost white washing England, though England managed to sneak 2 points in the end. The final result was a close one with England winning by 8 shots, but this is a marked improvement from the previous match held in 2019.

The future is looking bright for Welsh Short Mat Bowls.
